Modsy alternatives, split by which half you miss

What actually happened

Modsy’s own site now carries a short statement rather than a service. Read on August 14, 2026, it says the company narrowed to core 3D technology for the home and that on August 30, 2023 the remaining team and intellectual property were acquired by Lennar, a homebuilder.

That is unusually clean as far as shutdowns go — the answer is public, dated and on the company’s own domain. What it does not tell you is what to use instead, and that question turns out to have three different answers depending on which part of Modsy you were paying for.

Modsy was two products in one subscription

This is the part that makes every simple “best Modsy alternative” list wrong. Modsy bundled two capabilities that the market has since separated.

Photoreal 3D of your actual room, furnished with real products. You sent measurements and photos, and got back a rendering built from furniture that existed in catalogs, at correct scale, with a shopping list attached. The render was a buying decision, not a mood board.

A human designer. A person made the choices, iterated on your feedback, and answered questions a tool cannot.

Current tools do one or the other. None does both at Modsy’s price point, and the first capability in particular has quietly become the rarest thing in this market.

Modsy rendered furniture you could order. Today's AI renders furniture that does not exist — beautiful, correctly lit, and connected to no product in any catalog.

The replacements, priced

That last row is the honest finding of this page. The capability that distinguished Modsy — a render you could order from — has no direct successor at consumer prices.

If you miss the designer

Havenly is the closest replacement, and its list pricing is public: $199 per room for online design and $699 for an in-person designer, read August 14, 2026. What is worth knowing before you budget is that the discounts move — on that same date its home page advertised $159 and $499 while its pricing page advertised $99 and $349 under a coupon code. Treat the list price as the planning figure and the promotion as whatever happens to be running.

Like Modsy, its business model is partly retail: the site is also a furniture store, and the design service leads into it.

Decorilla operates in the same category with a similar white-glove framing. Its home page advertises a flash sale rather than a price, and the pricing page returned only 333 words of readable text on the date checked, so no figure for it appears in the table above.

What you get for that money is the thing no software sells: someone who makes decisions and takes responsibility for them. If what you valued about Modsy was not rendering but the fact that a person chose the sofa, this is the only category that replaces it.

If you miss the 3D accuracy

Planner 5D and Homestyler are layout tools rather than styling tools, and both have real free tiers. Planner 5D publishes Free at $0, Individual at $19.99 per month or $59.99 per year, and Commercial at $49.99 per month. Homestyler describes itself as completely free with community purchasable add-ons.

Neither will make your room beautiful. They will tell you whether the sectional fits, where the walkway lands, and what happens if the bed goes on the other wall — the dimensional half of what Modsy did, at zero or near-zero cost.

This is also where most former Modsy users are best served, because the scale accuracy was the part that made Modsy’s renders trustworthy, and it is the part AI tools are worst at.

If you miss the speed and the price

The AI photo tools are dramatically cheaper and faster than Modsy ever was. Spacely AI publishes a $0 forever plan with 40 trial credits, no card required, commercial license and watermark-free output. DecorAI publishes $24 per month for unlimited designs after a one-day, three-design trial. Both figures read August 14, 2026.

For a single room where you want to see three directions before choosing, this category has genuinely surpassed what Modsy offered — in turnaround, in cost, and in how many variations you can look at.

What you give up is everything the render is attached to. There is no shopping list, no guarantee the furniture exists, and no assurance the proportions are yours rather than an idealized version of your room. Choosing by what you were actually buying

Most people who miss Modsy miss two of these at once, and the practical answer is to combine a free layout tool with a cheap AI styling tool. That pairing costs under $25 a month and covers the dimensional and the visual halves separately — with the burden of merging them falling on you, which is precisely the labor Modsy used to absorb.

When none of this is the right purchase

If the room is being renovated rather than furnished, all of these answer the wrong question. Modsy and its replacements assume walls stay where they are. Once cabinetry, plumbing or structure moves, the binding constraint is money rather than styling — what a kitchen remodel costs and what a bathroom costs reorder most plans faster than a render does, and the remodel cost calculator gives a range in about thirty seconds.

And if what you want is someone to simply decide for you, accept that this is the one thing that stayed expensive. It was the expensive part of Modsy too — the software was never what you were paying for.
